Double-Basses William Fletcher William Fletcher (Darlington) 1890 5/8 size. An unusual instrument made in Darlington in 1890 (labelled) by Wm Fletcher. I believe William Fletcher to have been a skilled wood worker/craftsman but not a professional maker. His approach to making a double bass seems to be influenced by many European styles. It has a one-piece Poplar carved back, tightly flamed maple ribs and a nice quality carved spruce front. I have had this bass for about 10 years and have been trying to find out more about this maker with no luck however, I have finally got around to finishing the extensive restoration (re-graduated front, new bass bar, neck graft, etc...) and I'm very pleased with the outcome and it looks and sounds remarkable. Specs; back length 106cm, string length 100cm, d-neck, rib depth 19cm (not including the front and back. Please feel free to ask for more details. £8,000 07931 165350
